The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) released draft guidelines that maintain all existing screening methods, including Pap testing and co-testing (Pap+HPV), so women can continue to access life-saving preventive care.
The USPSTF has a 5-week comment period to receive feedback from healthcare professionals. Help ensure we preserve all screening options in the final guidelines. You can make your voice heard by submitting a comment letter to the USPSTF. You must submit comments by January 13, 2025.

How this Impacts Patients
The USPSTF screening guidelines impact a woman’s ability to access life-saving screening for cervical cancer. Choice in screening methods is crucial to maintain patient-provider relationships for women who already face disparities and inequities in healthcare.
USPSTF screening guidelines also determine services that are covered as preventive care. It’s important for these draft recommendations to be adopted so all screening options for preventive care would be covered and not subject to cost-sharing, which supports your ability as a healthcare professional to determine the best screening option for your patients.
- Several recent publications have identified a concerning trend toward decreased adherence to cervical cancer screening in the United States. This has been observed at a time when the most recent Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) data show that the incidence of cervical cancer is no longer declining.
- Co-testing has been shown to be the most sensitive screening strategy for detecting cervical cancer and precancer.
